Report Reveals the Engine Details of Kia Stonic for Pakistani Market

Kia Lucky Motor (KLM) is under the proverbial spotlight these days as the launch of the new subcompact SUV Kia Stonic is drawing closer. Apart from the occasional spottings of the camouflaged vehicles, recent reports have also revealed the engine that will power the upcoming SUV.

Several updates have confirmed that one of the engine choices in the Kia Stonic for Pakistan will be a 1.4 liter naturally aspirated 4-cylinder petrol engine. The engine makes 100 horsepower, 134 Newton-meters of torque, and is mated to an automatic gearbox.

Reports also state that the base variant of the Kia Stonic will likely be sold with a 1.2 liter naturally aspirated 4-cylinder petrol engine, although no details have been shared at the time.

A Smart Decision

Initially, it was reported that a few test units of the Stonic featured a 1.0-liter turbocharged engine, which led to the speculation that the company was going to launch the Stonic in Pakistan with that engine. If the recent reports are to be believed, KLM has made a wise decision by not offering the turbocharged engine for the Pakistani market.

Granted that turbocharged engines are much more responsive and exciting due to the power and torque bump over the naturally aspirated engines, but it must also be accounted for that turbo engines are expensive to run and require more maintenance as compared to a naturally aspirated engine.

KLM seems to be aware of the fact that Pakistani car buyers prefer a vehicle that is reliable and pocket-friendly in terms of running cost. Naturally aspirated engines have been tried and tested in the Pakistani market, and are a favorable choice, given that the vehicle is intended to attract the subcompact family sedan buyers towards itself.
