Ramiz Raja Reveals PCB’s Approach on Backup Plans for Future Tours [Video]

Newly-elected Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman, Ramiz Raja, has confirmed that Pakistan will have to plan back-up options in case England back out of their tour of the country in 2022. Ramiz said that New Zealand and England’s decision to call off their tour of Pakistan has been disappointing and it feels like Pakistan cricket has been ‘used and then binned’.

Ramiz expressed his disappointment while talking to the foreign media via a virtual press conference. The video of the press conference has been uploaded by the official account of PCB on various social media platforms.

The 59-year old added that Pakistan cannot take any chances going forward and will have to make contingency plans in case England once again decide to back out of the tour. Ramiz said that Pakistan has always gone out of the way to help other top international teams but they have not received the same treatment and feel betrayed by the actions of the two cricket boards.

Former opener said that he spoke to the chairman of England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) regarding England’s decision to back out from the tour and asked him questions regarding England’s tour of Pakistan in 2022.

“I spoke to Ian [Watmore] about this and I said what is the guarantee of England coming back in 2022 and playing because a month before that tour you can easily quote tiredness, players being spooked, or sick of living in a bubble, or a threat perception not being shared with us. He clearly had no answer to that, so we’ll have a back-up plan for sure,” Ramiz stated.
