The Taliban government has decided to ban the broadcasting of the Indian Premier League (IPL) in Afghanistan. According to details, the ban has been placed due to un-Islamic content which includes girls dancing and the presence of female fans in the stadiums.
Afghanistan Cricket Board’s (ACB) former media manager, Mohammad Ibrahim shared the details of the ban on Twitter.
He tweeted, “Afghanistan national TV will not broadcast the IPL as usual as it was reportedly banned to live the matches resumed tonight due to possible anti-Islam contents, girls dancing and the attendance of bare hair women in the stadium by the Islamic Emirates of the Taliban.”

Taliban’s decision to ban the IPL can lead to an adverse impact on Afghanistan’s cricketers. Rashid Khan, Mujeeb-ur-Rahman, and Mohammad Nabi are currently participating in the ongoing tournament and it might not bode well for them in future tournaments.
Afghanistan’s cricket has been in turmoil ever since the Taliban takeover. Earlier, Afghanistan Cricket had to cancel their limited-overs series against Pakistan in Sri Lanka due to logistical issues. Recently, Cricket Australia stated that they will not play their scheduled Test against Afghanistan if the Taliban refuse to let their women’s cricket team play.
