Redmi 9 Gets New Models with Water Resistance and More RAM

Even though the Redmi 10 lineup has already launched, Xiaomi is still expanding the Redmi 9 series with newer models. The Chinese brand has released the Redmi 9i Sport and Redmi 9A Sport and if that wasn’t confusing enough already, there is also a new Redmi 9 Activ.

The Redmi 9i Sport and 9A Sport are not so different from the original. In fact, the only difference in the new models is that they bring water-resistant P2i coating to the table, which adds splash resistance to the devices. Clearly, Xiaomi thought that adding an extra element to their phones would keep the lineup relevant in 2021 as well.

Alongside the two new handsets, there is also a Redmi 9 Activ that brings more RAM than the original. You now get 6GB RAM (up from 4GB) with 128GB storage and two different color options. The base version is still 4GB/128GB, so the extra RAM is only an option to upgrade.

Otherwise, the new Redmi 9 Sport phones are no different from the original. They all have the same display, same chipsets, same cameras, and even the same batteries. The only minor difference is that the Redmi 9A has a slightly brighter display.

The Redmi 9A Sport is the cheapest of them all, starting at $95 only. The Redmi 9i Sport is priced at $120 and the Redmi 9 Activ’s 6GB variant goes for $160. The three phones should be arriving in Pakistan soon.
