The Netherlands Govt is Secretly Investigating Mosques

The city governments in the Netherlands are carrying secret investigations of mosques through a private firm, local media reported on Sunday.

According to Dutch daily NRC, the investigations are being carried out against mosques, imams, mosque association officials, and people active in the community in at least ten municipalities of the country.

NRC said the investigations are underway in Rotterdam, Delft, Almere, Huizen, Leidschendam-Voorburg, Zoetermeer, Veenendaal, and Ede.

The newspaper said that so far only Utrecht Municipality had halted investigations citing concerns about privacy and the method of the probe.

The report claimed that the national coordinator for security and counterterrorism funded Nuance door Training en Advies (NTA) for these investigations through local governments.

“Around $347,990 has been spent so far on the secret investigations,” the report claimed.

It said that the NTA officials met the community leaders, active members, and imams posing as members of the community or visitors to gather information.

The company collected information related to the backgrounds of imams and administrators, their schooling, and religious thoughts and submitted it to the municipalities as “secret information”.
