Punjab Hasn’t Banned Co-Education in Private Colleges

The Punjab Higher Education Commission (PHEC) has not imposed a ban on co-education in BS (Hons) degree programs in private colleges all over the province, unlike it was reported in the media.

Some media outlets, including ProPakistani, had reported that Punjab government has banned co-education in colleges for certain degree programs.

ProPakistani, for this news item, had cited 24News TV for the report, which was later rejected by the Punjab Government.

The government spokesperson took it to Twitter to debunk the report and categorically rejected the claim.

Azhar Mashwani, while citing Minister Higher Education Punjab, Yasir Humayun, confirmed that no such decision is taken and education institutes will continue to operate as they were.

On the other hand, Akmal Soomro, the 24News reporter who broke the news, continues to stand by his claim. In fact, he has shared a screenshot of the checklist for private colleges to corroborate the claim.

In the 28th row of the checklist, it is stated that:

Separate blocks for boys and girls. Affidavit for no co-education according to sample available in the booklet on stamp paper duly attested by Oath Commissioner.
