Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 Brings Generative AI from the Cloud to Your Phone

Qualcomm has officially introduced its latest chipset, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. This flagship platform is constructed using TSMC’s cutting-edge 4nm process and is designed to excel in AI, gaming, audio, and camera enhancements.

CPU and GPU

Compared to its predecessor, Gen 3 offers a remarkable 30% boost in performance and a 20% increase in energy efficiency. The chipset’s octa-core processor is composed of 1 Cortex-X4 prime core that can reach speeds of up to 3.3 GHz, five high-performance cores clocked at up to 3.2 GHz, and 2 efficiency cores operating at speeds of up to 2.3 GHz.

Notably, the GPU incorporated into the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is 25% faster, 25% more power-efficient, and enhances Ray Tracing performance by 40%.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is engineered to deliver gaming experiences that rival consoles, with support for 240 fps on 240 Hz displays. Additionally, the Adreno Frame Motion Engine 2.0 generates frames to ensure smoother gameplay, and the chipset boasts compatibility with Unreal Engine 5.2.

AI Engine

Artificial intelligence takes center stage in the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. It commences with the AI Engine, capable of supporting multi-modal generative AI models and large language models renowned for speech recognition. The chip exhibits the ability to process up to 20 tokens per second, enabling instant AI assistant responses.

Qualcomm proudly asserts that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 boasts the world’s fastest and most stable diffusion, enabling it to generate an image in a fraction of a second.

Camera Updates

AI enhancements also extend to the camera functionalities. Semantic Segmentation contributes to real-time enhancements in image vibrancy and detail. Night Vision video brightens dark scenes, while an object eraser for videos can eliminate unwanted elements or individuals.

The Vlogger’s View captures video from both your front and rear cameras simultaneously. Photo Expansion utilizes generative AI to expand images beyond their original captured data, and improvements have been made to HDR capabilities as well.

Memory and Connectivity

The chip offers support for LPDDR5x memory running at speeds of up to 4800 MHz, with capacities reaching as high as 24 GB. It is equipped to handle Wi-Fi 7, spanning across the 6 GHz spectrum, encompassing standards like 802.11be, 802.11ax, 802.11ac, and 802.11a/bg/n. Additionally, the chip features the X75 5G modem, equipped with antennas for both sub-6 GHz and mmWave frequencies.

Audiophiles will appreciate that this new chip can transmit lossless music at 24-bit 96 kHz quality over Bluetooth.

Availability

Qualcomm has announced that devices powered by the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 will be hitting the market in the upcoming weeks.

The chipmaker has established partnerships with prominent brands including Asus, Honor, iQOO, Meizu, Nio, Nubia, OnePlus, Oppo, realme, Redmi, RedMagic, Sony, vivo, Xiaomi, and ZTE.
