Wahab Riaz is Pakistan Team’s New Chief Selector

Former pacer and current caretaker Sports Minister Punjab, Wahab Riaz, has been appointed as Chief Selector of the Pakistan cricket team.

The developments emanating from the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) headquarters in Lahore show no signs of stopping.

Wahab Riaz, who plays for Peshawar Zalmi, will be tasked to select Pakistan’s squad for the upcoming Test tour of Australia.

Wahab’s appointment comes as a surprise as he is still an active cricketer at the franchise level. He has replaced Tauseef Ahmed, who was appointed for an interim term after Inzamam-ul-Haq resigned from the position due to a potential conflict of interest.

What is more baffling is that Wahab is currently serving as a current caretaker Sports Minister Punjab, a post that he may have to resign from due to the same ‘conflict of interest.

Meanwhile, Pakistan has also appointed Mohammad Hafeez as head coach and technical director, replacing Mickey Arthur and Grant Bradburn both. Shan Masood is named as thet Test captain while Shaheen will lead the T20I side after Babar Azam’s resignation as captain from all three formats.
