The city district administration has announced a plan to use artificial intelligence (AI) traffic learning to address traffic jams on roads. This initiative was revealed in a meeting on Wednesday, chaired by Commissioner Zaid bin Maqsood, focusing on the city’s traffic issues.
The plan involves utilizing AI through Safe City cameras at five key points of traffic obstruction. Commissioner Maqsood emphasized that continuous AI would would identify, and remedy all causes of traffic flow obstruction.
Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC) has been instructed to remove all waste containers from the main roads to ensure smooth traffic flow. Additionally, the Traffic Engineering and Town Planning Agency (TEPA) and the district administration have been directed to remove illegal and unnecessary signboards from roads and footpaths.
Safe City cameras will also help identify illegal parking and traffic jams across the city. The briefing pointed out that clearing illegal structures, and parking, and setting up traffic awareness camps in different towns are already underway in the first phase.
Commissioner Maqsood also tasked TEPA with checking and painting lane markings at traffic signals and removing excess poles and boards from all roads. He stressed that maintaining traffic flow in the city requires a practical traffic engineering plan. Practical steps are being taken following clear instructions from the chief minister regarding comprehensive traffic interventions in Lahore.
The commissioner further noted that along with road and signal design changes, a comprehensive plan for traffic education and awareness is essential. He emphasized that parking should only be allowed in approved areas of commercial buildings, and enforcement of this rule is crucial. Improvements in traffic flow will be achieved through various measures, including road design changes, patchwork, new signs, boards, and spike barrier installations.
Key officials such as Deputy Commissioner Rafia Haider, Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Amara Athar, LWMC CEO Babar Sahibdin, Wasa Managing Director Ghafran Ahmed, and officers from the Punjab Safe City Authority participated in the meeting, signaling a coordinated effort to tackle the city’s traffic problems.

Is this a joke article ? Ai can’t even do anything.
There are only few ways to decrease traffic jams in the world . AND I AM NOT EVEN AN AI.
1. Walkable cities.
2. Public transport that’s not stuck in traffic. Separate lane for buses and essential services (ambulances, postage , heavy vehicles)
3. Walking infrastructure so people can walk to near places.
4. Cycling infrastructure so short to some long distances can by easily cycled.
5. Public transit connecting areas mostly used.
6. Less reliance on SUVs
Adding one more lane or AI will never work . It’s been tried and it didn’t work. Katy freeway is texas usa has 26 lanes, and it has massive traffic jams.
Yeah doesn’t work . Keep trying and it will never work .
