The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 brings bigger upgrades compared to the Galaxy Z Fold 6. It is not only slimmer and lighter but boasts improved durability and intelligence compared to its 2023 counterpart. Most notably, the camera system receives a welcome upgrade.
The Galaxy Z Flip 6 brings a display upgrade with a new LTPO panel that can adjust its refresh rate between 1 and 120Hz for better battery life. However, the screen size and resolution remain the same at 6.7 inches with 1080p resolution.
The smaller external display on the folded phone keeps its previous size at 3.4 inches and resolution with 720 x 748 pixels and a 60Hz refresh rate. It can still get incredibly bright at 1,600 nits in high-brightness mode.
Marking a first for foldables, the Galaxy Z Flip 6 boasts dust and water resistance with an IP48 rating. While it won’t completely block out dust, it should shield against larger particles. The water resistance remains on par with previous models, but the phone achieves a slimmer profile thanks to a redesigned hinge.
Durability is also a focus, with the Z Flip 6 sporting tougher versions of Armor Aluminum and Gorilla Glass Victus 2, making it the most resilient Z Flip to date.
Powering the phone is the flagship tier Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy, ensuring consistent performance across all markets. This powerful chipset tackles various AI tasks on the device, and for the first time on a Z Flip model, a vapor chamber keeps things cool under pressure.
Storage capacity gets a bump as well, with the Z Flip 6 now offering 12 GB of RAM (up from 8 GB last year) alongside either 256 GB or 512 GB of storage, but it’s missing the 1 TB option found on the Z Fold 6. The software is Android 14 with One UI 6.1.1 on top, but will receive upgrades for 7 years.
The Z Flip 6 leverages the Flex Display for new AI tricks. “Suggested Replies” analyzes your message history and proposes responses to incoming texts. This lets you respond quickly without even opening the phone, or even typing while it’s closed.
The biggest camera news is the main sensor’s jump to 50MP (f/1.8 aperture, 85-degree lens with optical image stabilization). This allows for sharper photos and a built-in 2x zoom. You can zoom even further using AI software zoom, up to 10x magnification. The 12-megapixel ultrawide camera and the 10-megapixel selfie camera remain unchanged from the previous model.
The Galaxy Z Flip 6 introduces “Auto Zoom” for Flex Mode. This works when you partially fold the phone and use it like a tripod. Auto Zoom automatically adjusts the view to capture the best shot for group photos or selfies, all hands-free.
The Galaxy Z Flip 6 gets a welcome battery boost, jumping from 3,700 mAh in the Z Flip 5 to a more generous 4,000 mAh. Charging speeds remain unchanged, with 25W wired charging offering roughly 50% juice in 30 minutes, and 15W wireless charging available as well.
The Z Flip 6 comes in a variety of colors including Silver Shadow, Yellow, Blue, and Mint. Color connoisseurs can explore even more options exclusively on Samsung’s website, including Crafted Black, White, and Peach.
The starting price for the base 12 GB/256 GB model is $1,100 in the US, a slight bump from the $1,000 launch price of the previous 8 GB/256 GB Z Flip 5.
