The Chinese foldable smartphone market is experiencing rapid growth, with devices becoming increasingly slim, powerful, and feature-rich. Xiaomi’s latest offering, the Mix Fold 4, exemplifies this trend, directly competing with Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Honor’s Magic V3.
Impressively lightweight at just 226 grams, the Mix Fold 4 nearly matches the Honor Magic V3 in terms of thinness, measuring a mere 4.59 millimeters when unfolded and 9.47 millimeters when closed. Xiaomi has opted for a curved frame design that seamlessly blends with the aluminum edges. A notable feature of the Mix Fold 4 is its IPX8 water resistance rating, allowing for submersion in up to 1.5 meters of water for 30 minutes.
The device boasts a 6.56-inch LTPO OLED cover display with Full HD+ resolution and an adaptive refresh rate ranging from 1 to 120 Hz, catering to various usage scenarios.
The centerpiece of the Mix Fold 4 is its expansive 7.98-inch main display, constructed using durable Ultra Thin Glass (UTG) technology, same as Samsung’s foldables.
Following the trend set by other flagship foldables, the Mix Fold 4 incorporates Qualcomm’s powerful Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, accompanied by up to 16 GB of RAM and 1 TB of storage.
For software, you get the same HyperOS skin on top of Android 14 as the Mix Flip, but this one has more split-screen multitasking features to make the most of its much larger main screen.
In photography, the device features a robust camera system led by a 50MP main sensor equipped with f/1.7 aperture and optical image stabilization (OIS). Complementing this is a 50MP 2x portrait sensor with a 47mm focal length, and a 10MP periscope lens offering 5x optical zoom and a 115mm equivalent focal length. The camera setup is rounded out by a 12MP ultrawide lens with a 15mm equivalent focal length.
Both the front cameras on the outer and inner screen are 20MP shooters.
The battery on this foldable is a massive 5,100 mAh unit the company calls a Xiaomi Surge battery with support for 67W wired charging and 50W wireless charging.
Xiaomi Mix Fold 4 undercuts the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 in terms of price by a significant amount, as it starts at $1237 in China compared to the Galaxy Z Fold 6’s $1800.
