OnePlus Open took the title of one of the best foldable phones when it came out last year. Now that its successor, the OnePlus Open 2, is about to launch, leaks are pointing toward a foldable that goes even beyond.
The OnePlus Open 2 is expected to feature a significant battery upgrade. According to industry insider Digital Chat Station, the device could pack a massive 6,000 mAh battery, making it the biggest battery on a foldable smartphone. The Open 2 is slated for release in the first quarter of 2025 and will be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chipset.
The substantial battery capacity is likely attributed to OnePlus’ collaboration with CATL on Glacier Battery technology. This innovative silicone-carbon solution promises improved efficiency, durability, and energy density. The upcoming Ace 3 Pro is set to be the first smartphone to incorporate this technology, boasting an impressive 763 Wh/L energy density, a 23% increase over traditional lithium-ion batteries.
The original OnePlus Open boasted a sizable 4,805 mAh battery, delivering solid performance in battery life tests compared to other foldable devices. However, with rapid advancements in battery technology, the upcoming OnePlus Open 2 faces stiff competition from rivals like the Vivo X Fold 3 Pro and Honor Magic V3, both equipped with silicon-carbon batteries offering capacities of 5,700 mAh and 5,150 mAh respectively.
