Pakistan squash player, Asim Khan has publicly voiced his frustration with the lack of recognition and support from his employer, Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL).
Despite a career spanning 11 years with SNGPL, Khan feels his contributions have gone unnoticed. Throughout his tenure, Khan has consistently represented SNGPL at the highest level, amassing numerous accolades.
He has secured 10 PSA titles, a bronze medal at the Asian Games, gold at the SAF Games, a silver and bronze in the Asian Team Championships, and another silver at the Asian Games. Additionally, Khan has been crowned the national champion, showcasing his prowess and dedication to the sport.
However, Khan’s achievements have not been met with the recognition he believes he deserves.
The Squash star recently posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, “For the last 11 years I’ve been representing SNGPL in the top rank,” Khan stated. “I won many medals and titles for them and became the national champion.
Yet, there is no message of appreciation from them, no incentive, no promotion, no bonus, and they don’t even know that I have recently won a title.”
Khan’s disappointment is palpable as he calls on SNGPL to acknowledge his contributions. “It’s time to remind them that I represent them as well,” he emphasized.
This plea highlights a broader issue of support for athletes who dedicate their careers to representing departments, only to find their accomplishments overlooked.
The lack of recognition from SNGPL raises questions about the support systems in place for athletes within the country, prompting a need for a club-based league system that is being practiced around the world.
