Who Is Valencia’s Pakistani-Born Football Coach Naser Kayani??

The Pakistani Spaniard women’s reserve team football coach at Valencia CF, Naser Kayani, recently had a conversation with Pakistan’s renowned football writer and founder of FPDC, Ali Ahsan.

Kayani, who has been with Valencia’s academy for nearly a decade, was appointed coach of Valencia Femenino B in August 2023.

Born in Zaragoza, Spain, to a Spanish mother and a Pakistani father, Naser spent his early childhood in Jhelum, Pakistan, before moving to the USA and later back to Spain after his father’s premature death.

Despite struggling with the transition and language barriers, the Valencia Femenino B football coach eventually found his footing in Zaragoza, where he began playing football at the age of 12.

Naser’s promising football career was cut short due to knee injuries in his early 20s. Encouraged by his mother, he transitioned into coaching, starting with local youth teams in Zaragoza and Valencia. His dedication and skill caught the attention of Valencia CF, where he has been a pivotal figure in their academy for the past decade.

“Valencia was truly my first proper club. Their academy system took me right in and I learned from an amazing group of coaches.” stated the Valencia Femenino B head coach.

Throughout his tenure, Naser has been passionate about promoting women’s football. His efforts coincided with the rise of women’s football in Spain, culminating in the national team’s historic win at the FIFA Women’s World Cup in 2023. The Spanish women’s team also had a player from Valencia which was a moment of pride for Kayani.

Although deeply rooted in Spain, Naser maintains ties with his Pakistani heritage and family. He expressed openness to potentially coaching the Pakistan Women’s National Team in the future, emphasizing the transformative power of football for Pakistani girls.

“At the moment, I am fully focused on my coaching responsibilities at Valencia and I would like to continue at this level for a while. The current Pakistan captain Maria Khan also reached out to me last year. It’s always great to make new friends in football from around the world. Maybe sometime in the future, if I get the right offer, I’d be happy to consider the Pakistan women’s team job.” Kayani remarked.

Naser conveyed his gratitude for the support from Pakistani football fans and reaffirmed his commitment to advancing his coaching career while cherishing his connection to Pakistan.
