Apple AI Faces Delays, May Not Be Available in iPhone 16 at Launch

Apple’s new AI features, called Apple Intelligence, won’t be ready in time for the new iPhones coming out in September. Instead, it’ll arrive in October as part of a software update, according to insiders available to Bloomberg.

Apple will give software developers a first look at this AI stuff this week, with new test versions of its iPhone and iPad software. The AI will only work on newer Apple devices with powerful chips such as the latest A17 and M lineup.

Apple’s new AI features will also work on some older iPhones and iPads. But there’s bad news for people in Europe.

Apple said last month that its AI stuff, along with other new features, won’t be available in Europe this year because of new regulatory rules there. The EU wants Apple to let other companies work better with its products, but Apple says this could put people’s privacy at risk. The exact words from Apple were that “interoperability requirements could compromise the integrity.”

The specific features that Apple mentioned included Phone Mirroring, SharePlay Screen, and Apple Intelligence. These will be barred from EU users in 2024 to comply with regulatory uncertainties due to the EU’s DMA (Digital Markets Act), according to Apple.
