The Inter-Board Coordination Commission (IBCC), Higher Education Commission (HEC), Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), and Capital Development Authority (CDA) have formed a coalition to enhance cricket in educational institutions across Pakistan.
This collaboration was solidified through the signing of Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) at CDA headquarters on Tuesday.
According to the agreements, the PCB will offer technical support for cricket tournaments in schools and colleges each October and November.
Additionally, cricket competitions will be organized at the university level where the apex cricket board is tasked with organizing these tournaments, including planning and execution, and will supply official umpires, scorers, and other necessary personnel to ensure professional standards.
The apex cricket board will also be responsible for developing cricket grounds and providing equipment to educational institutions.
Selectors will be present at these events to identify talented players, with top performers from schools and colleges given opportunities to join PCB U-17 and U-19 teams.
Moreover, the finals of these tournaments will be held in national stadiums, with broadcasts ensured by the PCB. Winning teams will receive training at High-Performance Centers.
The PCB will also conduct special coaching courses for physical education teachers, with coaches visiting schools to train both boys and girls during camps.
The MOU between PCB and IBCC will be effective for five years, while the PCB-HEC agreement will last for two years. The HEC will promote sports scholarships for promising cricket players in higher education.
CDA Chairman Muhammad Ali Randhawa stated that the CDA will provide four cricket grounds in Islamabad for the PCB’s use. He expressed optimism about discovering world-class talent in local schools and colleges.
Meanwhile, CDA is also drafting a policy to utilize all 17 cricket grounds in Islamabad and is considering constructing a state-of-the-art cricket stadium in F-9 Park for first-class and PSL matches.
Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, also the PCB chairman, and Federal Education Minister Dr. Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui were present at the signing as well, alongside other officials.
