Flights Cancelled at Lahore Airport Amid Record-Breaking Rainfall

The Allama Iqbal International Airport in Lahore experienced severe disruption to flight operations due to heavy rainfall. The torrential downpour resulted in planes being parked in accumulated rainwater at the airport.

The severe weather in Lahore caused extensive flooding, with planes parked in rainwater on the airport tarmac, compelling the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) staff to work tirelessly to clear the runway and adjoining areas for safe take-offs and landings.

The city experienced an extraordinary 350 millimeters of rainfall in just three hours, breaking a 44-year-old record for the heaviest downpour in such a short span. The deluge resulted in widespread flooding across various parts of the city, severely affecting daily life and infrastructure.

The Meteorological Department has forecasted that strong monsoon currents from the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal are likely to persist, bringing further heavy rainfall across the country from August 1 to 6, with some intermittent gaps.

In addition to impacting air travel, the downpour also disrupted the electricity supply in Lahore. Approximately 288 feeders of the Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) were reported to have tripped, leaving many areas without power. LESCO has issued an appeal to residents to exercise patience as repair teams work to restore the electricity supply. The company has mobilized its resources to address the outages, prioritizing the most affected areas.

The rain also impacted the electricity supply in Lahore, as approximately 288 feeders of the Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) tripped due to the weather conditions. LESCO has urged consumers to remain patient while restoration efforts are underway, with teams working diligently to restore power.
