Lahore Closes Schools and Offices Amid Rain Emergency

Following the record-breaking rainfall in Lahore, Commissioner Lahore has declared a rain emergency across the provincial capital.

In response, all offices and schools in Lahore have been closed to prevent damage from the heavy rain. The Commissioner has advised the public to avoid traveling unless necessary.

Commissioner Zaid bin Maqsood visited the WASA head office, where MD Ghufran Ahmed provided a detailed briefing on the drainage operations. The Commissioner also urged residents to keep children indoors and exercise caution during the severe weather.

It is pertinent to mention that Lahore received more than 350 millimeters in just three hours earlier today. Sardar Sarfaraz, chief meteorologist at the Pakistan Meteorological Department, described the rains in Lahore as “torrential.”

According to the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA), rainfall measurements in various areas of Lahore were as follows:

  • Head Office Wasa, Gulberg: 201 mm
  • Lakshmi Chowk: 211 mm
  • Upper Mall: 194 mm
  • Mughalpura SDO Office: 202 mm
  • Tajpura SDO Office: 240 mm
  • Nishter Town Director Office: 287 mm
  • Chowk Nakhuda: 231 mm
  • Pani Wala Talab: 299 mm
  • Farrukhabad: 250 mm
  • Gulshan-e-Ravi: 220 mm
  • Iqbal Town SDO Office: 256 mm
  • Samnabad SDO Office: 220 mm
  • Johar Town SDO Office: 270 mm
  • Qurtaba Chowk: 217 mm
