NESPAK Proposes Modern Tram Route for Lahore

The National Engineering Services Pakistan (NESPAK) has proposed a route for a tram service in Lahore, drawing inspiration from tram systems in Finland and China. The route will cover nine major locations along Main Boulevard Gulberg.

A 3D video demonstrating the route and estimated travel times between stops has been prepared by NESPAK and will be presented to Punjab’s Chief Minister, Maryam Nawaz.

The proposed tram line will start at Kalma Chowk, with the first stop at Qaddafi Stadium, followed by Hafeez Center, Raja Center, and Main Market. From Main Market, the tram will proceed towards Home Economics College, then make a U-turn to continue along Main Boulevard. Additional stops include Mini Market and MM Alam Road before the journey ends at Kalma Chowk.

Israr Saeed, Chief Engineer of the Lahore Development Authority (LDA), highlighted that the tram is designed to serve the bustling business and commercial areas of Gulberg, potentially saving citizens millions in fuel each month. The project aims to be low-cost and energy-efficient, in line with modern demands and standards. A study of successful tram systems internationally is being conducted to inform the final proposal.

  • Is it not like rubbing salt over wounds when people
are finding it hard to make both ends meet and the country has already been technically defaulted ( when finance minister of any country is begging for rescheduling of loans taken it is submission of the fact that country has not left with any resources to honour its commitments and that is called DEFAULT.). THIS PROJECT IS TOO FARCICAL.

  • Congratulations Chief Minister of Lahore ! This yet another transport system for Lahore is a proof that you don’t look beyond Lahore in the Province . Rawalpindi is the most neglected City of Punjab with no government transport System except for the cosmetic metro which covers only 11 KM of only one road ! Thanks we will remember this as & when elections are held !!!!

    • Kidding to revenge in elections? Free and fair elections?? Justice, equality and fair play? You are just joking.

  • Such trams are very slow moving and very costly. Given extremely poor state of economy – at the verge of bankruptcy… why this project? What problem will it solve? Why not just have more buses on that route? Is this project for making more kick backs?

  • MsÛ” Maria Nawaz appearing to be best in taking the province particularly Lahore to it new heightsÛ” She is truly a dynamic ladyÛ” Wish her all the bestÛ”
