The renowned Monal restaurant in Islamabad has announced its closure, effective September 11, following orders from the Supreme Court of Pakistan.
The popular dining establishment announced on social media, stating,
It’s time to say Goodbye. As per Honorable SCP directions, we are closing on 11/09/2024.
The Supreme Court’s directive mandates the shutdown of all restaurants, including Monal, operating within Margalla National Park in Islamabad, a move aimed at preserving the park’s rich biodiversity. The ruling emerged from a case addressing the legality of these establishments within the protected area.
The court emphasized that all restaurants in the national park must cease operations and be removed within three months. Monal, situated in the scenic Margalla Hills National Park, has long been a favorite spot for locals and tourists alike. However, the park’s biodiversity has faced increasing threats from human activities and traffic, prompting the court’s decisive action.
The Supreme Court’s order highlights the need to protect natural habitats and biodiversity from further degradation. The relocation of Monal and other restaurants is intended to mitigate human impact on the park and ensure the preservation of its ecological balance.
Monal’s closure marks the end of an era for the iconic restaurant, which has been a significant part of Islamabad’s culinary landscape. The management has yet to announce any plans for relocation or future operations outside the park’s boundaries.

Good riddance. No eateries or restaurants should be allowed in parks or protected habitats. I applaud Chief Justice for boldly taking the decision to shut down subpar eating establishments in protected areas. These restaurants are hotspots of bacteria and viruses, making the diners sick. I thank the Chief Justice of Pakistan for taking this step.
Good step. Rules are there to be followed whether Monal or the moon
This is what our state institutes have mastered, shutting down everything…
Lol, not for biodiversity but those who must not be named are behind this .
Absolutely wright.
Yep, they are ruing our country from every single point…
Masha Allah, we have good planners in Pakistan establishment and in Government.
Very sad and disturbing news as it was considered to be most scenic restaurant and recreational spot throughout the world. It will give very bad impression on our tourism!
Sad news as Iconic restaurant where we witnessed alots of foreigners loved to come.
SCP is very proactive in such cases but thousands of cases pending since ages but nobody cares.
Very soon this place will be alloted to some one from forces with some camouflage name and activities.
May Allah curse and destine them in Hell forever to all those who grabbing everything from civilians of Pakistan
Shukar Alhumdulillah
Highly appreciate the orders from Supreme court. Our natural heritage needs to be protected for our coming generations. Last year when I went there, I saw lots of trash thrown by Monal visitors all around. Even the guests sitting within the boundaries were carelessly throwing tissue papers and food wrapers outside the boundaries. Human activity creates discomfort for Mountain dwelling animals.
I wish the best for Monal in any other spot in Islamabad where we can go and enjoy their food.
One more crucial reason behind this decision is that security threat for arm forces who is located bottom of margalla, Air base, navy etc.
Jab aisi jaghon pe chizen ban rahi hoti hain tab CDA rishwat kha k bhang pi k so jati hai. Aur saalon baad un jaghon ko barbaad kr k logon ka rozgaar tabah kr dete hain. Lanat
Right brother. Selective justice if exists
is a real problem.
True reasons are still hidden for the shut down monal.
sach bolnay pe Vigo aa jati hai
What about Dino valley?
Mein ice band hone nhi dunga 🙂
Out of capital terotery
Great step!
FROM WHERE IS THIS GOOD?!
Very good decision of SC
DO YOU EVEN LIKE IN ISLAMABAD DO YOU KNOW THE IMPACT OFTHIS
This is all because of establishment..this is best tourist sites..I don’t know what they want to throw back Pakistan more in pit..all other countries are making more tourists places and increase tourism and what we are doing?
good step
Socio-economic cost of court decisions is playing havoc to already very fragile economy of this country, destruction of Nasla tower Karachi, banning of Gold mart F7 , banning Matargalla Golf course, banning Rawal Sailing Club and now
Monal……. all decisions have taken away jobs of many poor people working in those facilities, judges should consider social and economical cost of their decisions for poor masses. And same court allowed McDonald’s restaurant to operate in F9 park after putting some fine, ……why? To please Americans…… shameful
It’s iconic symbol for ISLAMABAD And Pakistan.
But
Indeed a very sad news…we should look at other countries like Istanbul Turkey where they are promoting tourism and here in Islamabad we are discouraging it…
Monal was a landmark of Islamabad and I took all my diplomatic friends there and they loved it so much saying that its like Corsica or Paris…
We are extremely disappointed and disturbed…
And whatabout the Loss financial n natural beauty damage it created during last couple of years. The Owners are turned into Billionaire Where’s the accountability?
Not much worries for Monal Management as they will soon be relocating themselves a little higher and reverse of Margala Hills…
It is very big loss of owner
Owner was opportunistic and went against the rules, probably with the help of links in CDA. Now he is facing the reality which is rare in Pakistan but that’s how it should be. Technically all his income so far was Haram. Relief for the owner as well which he or she don’t know yet
All is conspiracy soon you will see a new restaurant or resort over there
Stupid polices
We should work on real issues
Plant tress
Stop the smoking vehicles
Focus to improve emissions from auto industry but the stupid people have no knowledge about what’s going on a
Third class Corolla is being sold at 80 lacs
Shame in authorities
Supreme Court decision is perfect bcoz margala hills should remain as it was in 80’s . Restaurants can be establish in other part of city.we need jungle for climate change and global warming. This summer record heat told us if u want to live then make ur self green.
Topic is completely different man. Read the article them comment and you’ll realize there are two stupid parties 😜
Good riddance .
This is going to be handed over to our army soon just wait and watch
Poor people of Pakistan are suiciding due to electricity bills. IPPs are looting Pakistan. Where is justice…… Our industry is deteriorating.. Where z Supreme Court??
A good decision… wesay bhi they were charging too much for the basic Pakistani food
Good decision indeed … It will have far reaching effects…comercialization of such scenic spots adds nothing instead spoil natural beauty
Closer is not a solution. However instead closing of restaurant the management should be emphasized to protect the nature with surety.
Well done the restaurant should be not at public parks
What about the McDonald’s ?
Wo bhi toh F-9 park mein bana hua hai ?
Aur bhi bahut Sare hain , kya unke bare mein bhi aisa hi faisla aaega ?
Sabko pata hai iske piche to establishment hai.
Jb bn rha tha tb kahan thi court bhi govt bhi,so rhy thy shaed,,,,,
Lol what about pir sohawa? It is also on margalla hills.
Now chowkidars wants another more than 3000 kanal land in Margallah in the name of security…
Monal helped in the natural beauty get rid of the other restaurants and the trashy amusement park but why get rid of this treasured eatery
SC should ban on dha n newly made societies in Islamabad, that destroy our natural habitat and making Islamabad a concrete jungle
I hope some how the army or retired army men dont get their hands on this land.
Another blow to the economy because of irrational thinking.
What about La Montana? That’s uglier.
Jan chuti shukr ha
Biodiversity, rule also applies to Muree to Gilgit resorts
There was only one beautiful place where the food was good, the view was good, people used to enjoy themselves, people used to relax in this tension problem.
Daer aye durust aye
Hope the structure is put to a good public use.
Such a nature-ful place should never have been used as an eatery. The whole Ecosystem around the place has been destroyed by the so-called human traffic attracted by the facility
Rules and orders are for rich people only. Islamabad is full of encroachments including all major markets with chaabari waalas dominating all open spaces. Even green belts are occupied by these mafiaas and Govt is still sleeping
