Islamabad Bans Sale and Use of Toy Horns for 10 Days

Just a few days ahead of Independence Day, the Islamabad Capital Territory administration has enforced a 10-day ban on the sale, purchase, and use of honking toy horns (baaja) in the federal capital.

According to a notification by the Islamabad Additional District Magistrate, Usman Ashraf, the ban on honking toy horns is effective immediately and will last ten days. The notification further added that the ban has been enforced under Section 144.

The notification highlighted that toy horns sold in the federal capital are causing disruptions to vehicular traffic flow, prompting the administration to act.

Moreover, Islamabad Deputy Commissioner Irfan Nawaz has urged citizens to refrain from using toy horns and instructed stall owners to stop their sales.

He also ordered assistant commissioners to confiscate all toy horns being sold. The official warned that using or selling these toys could have legal consequences and urged citizens to follow the directives.

Last year, a judicial magistrate’s court in Karachi directed action against sellers and users of toy horns ahead of Independence Day. In 2022, a Lahore High Court petition sought a ban on plastic toy horns and whistles due to noise complaints, but the court dismissed the plea.
