According to local reports, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has chosen to appoint Naveed Akram Cheema as the team manager for the upcoming two-Test series against Bangladesh.
This is essentially a rehiring of Naveed Akram Cheema to his prior post in the PCB as he was replaced by Mansoor Rana after the disastrous tours of Australia and New Zealand last year where Pakistan suffered defeat. Wahab Riaz was appointed as a senior team manager at this time as well.
After Pakistan’s disappointing performance in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 in the USA and West Indies, Wahab and Mansoor were removed from their managerial roles, reportedly due to their inability to uphold discipline within the team. PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has therefore decided to bring back the prior team manager in a bid to rebuild the disciplinary structure of the team.
Additional team management for the Bangladesh series is expected to be announced by the PCB in the coming days.
With the two-Test series is set to begin on Wednesday, August 21 in Rawalpindi, the team will hope to get off to a winning start as part of Pakistan’s World Test Championship (WTC) campaign.
