NDMA Issues Flood Warning for Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a flood warning for Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa. It is predicted that the heavy rains will continue until August 18.

The NDMA forecast predicted rain across various Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa regions, including Hazara, Malakand Division, Peshawar, Bannu, D.I. Khan, Hangu, Haripur, and Kohat, with additional rainfall expected in Kurram, Lakki Marwat, Mohmand, Orakzai, and Waziristan.

The NDMA has issued a warning about possible flooding and increased water flow in rivers and streams due to anticipated heavy rains in the province.

The Federal Flood Commission (FFC) reported that the River Indus is at medium flood levels in the Guddu-Sukkur area and low flood levels at Tarbela-Kalabagh-Chashma-Taunsa. The River Kabul is experiencing low flood levels at Warsak.

The latest FFC report shows that major rivers in the Indus River System, such as the Jhelum, Chenab, Ravi, and Sutlej, are discharging at normal levels.

According to the official data, the heavy rains during this year’s monsoon season in Pakistan have resulted in 178 fatalities.

The National Disaster Management Authority reports that of the 178 deaths caused by the monsoon rains in Pakistan since July, 92 are children. The collapse of homes has been the leading cause of these fatalities.
