Punjab Govt to Install Cameras at Marriage Halls and Restaurants to Catch Tax Evaders

The Punjab government has decided to introduce digital monitoring of marriage halls, marquees, farmhouses, and restaurants as part of efforts to crack down on tax evasion and improve revenue collection.

The decision was taken during a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz to review provincial revenue performance and measures aimed at making the tax collection system more transparent and technology-driven.

Under the plan, modern camera systems will be installed at marriage halls, marquees, farmhouses, and major food chains to monitor business activity. The government is also considering making digital payments mandatory at selected restaurants to improve transaction documentation.

Authorities said strict action will be taken against businesses found issuing fake receipts or concealing sales. Officials believe the digital monitoring system will help identify tax evasion and strengthen enforcement efforts.

CM Maryam Nawaz said the government will adopt a zero-tolerance policy toward tax evasion and use technology to make the tax system more efficient. She added that digital tools and camera monitoring would support efforts to detect irregularities and improve compliance.

The meeting was informed that Punjab has set a revenue target of Rs. 528.5 billion for FY27. The Punjab Revenue Authority’s collections have increased from Rs. 250 billion to Rs. 346 billion, reflecting a growth of 38 percent.

Officials also said the Punjab Revenue Authority’s operational footprint has expanded from 10 to 26 districts, while dedicated intelligence, investigation, taxpayer audit, and legal wings have been established to strengthen tax administration.
