On Thursday, numerous Pakistani cities experienced internet disruptions, exacerbating existing worries about service reliability.
This comes up after sources told ProPakistani that the social media and internet services are expected to return to normal within two to three days. The firewall installation is a significant step towards regulating online content and ensuring a secure digital environment in Pakistan.
The Wireless and Internet Service Providers Association of Pakistan (Wispap) reported that over the past several weeks, connection speeds have dropped by 30 to 40%. Wispap further cautioned that the situation has become critical, with many companies now contemplating moving their operations abroad.
Since last week, users of popular online services like Facebook and WhatsApp have encountered significant challenges. Many have reported sluggish performance and trouble accessing these widely-used messaging and social media apps.
Reports of social media outage peaked once again today at around 1 PM according to the internet disruption detector Downdetector. The same goes for other platforms such as Facebook as well as ISPs such as Nayatel. The ProPakistani staff also experienced disruption in internet access.
The widespread nature of these issues has led some to speculate about their cause. A number of users have suggested that the government might be behind the disruptions, speculating that authorities have implemented a firewall. This firewall would be used to monitor and control user activity online.
The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has denied that the issue was caused by a firewall.

Arshad Nadeem’s medal is all this lazy, insensitive, and good-for-nothing nation wants. They are not bothered about anything else. It is not only the internet but electricity as well. In my area, there is power outage for 5-10 hours almost daily. Not only that, the light goes off on hourly basis, courtesy the corrupt and inefficient power sector. None is bothered. This country has been turned into a HELL.
