Former Pakistan captain, Wasim Akram, stated that Olympic gold medalist Arshad Nadeem’s achievement has astonished the entire world.
Speaking to the media in Melbourne, Wasim Akram remarked that Pakistan has talent, but the talent often lacks opportunities.
However, Arshad Nadeem, through his hard work and the opportunities he had, has left the world in awe. “As Pakistanis, we are proud of him, but the entire world is also proud of his accomplishment.” Akram said.
He further added that Arshad Nadeem’s achievement has given the nation hope, showing that if the talent in Pakistan is provided with opportunities and facilities, it can achieve even more.
Akram emphasized that the problem in Pakistan is the lack of facilities, and talent is not nurtured properly through a proper system in the country.
He called for all sports bodies to come together to think about how to generate funds, suggesting that they should meet, plan, and build dedicated stadiums. Akram warned that if young people are not given opportunities, they will remain occupied with their phones.
Congratulating Neeraj Chopra, Wasim Akram said, “I would like to congratulate Neeraj Chopra, what a sportsman he is. The mothers of Arshad Nadeem and Neeraj Chopra have sent a great message. Sports is separate from politics, and the connection between people is important.” he remarked.
While speaking about the camaraderie of the athletes and their families, he said, “The parents of both athletes have sent a positive message worldwide, and Arshad Nadeem has done an excellent job, for which I also congratulate him.”
Regarding the inclusion of cricket in the Olympics, Akram expressed his optimism that cricket has been included in the Olympics, and he hopes that it will feature in the next Olympics in the T20 format, which he believes is the right format for the event.
“If breakdancing can be included, then cricket should also be part of the Olympics.” he added.
Speaking about the Champions Trophy, which is scheduled to be held in Pakistan next year, Akram said that hosting the Champions Trophy in Pakistan is a significant event.
He mentioned that Chairman Mohsin Naqvi is upgrading the stadiums, and Akram believes that fans should be brought to the stadiums and provided with adequate facilities.
While security is essential, fans should not be face any kind of inconvenience so they can come to the stadiums and enjoy the matches.
