The Jashan-e-Azaadi Sports Gala 2024, organized by the District Sports Office (DSO) Charsadda, was supposed to be a celebration of youth sports but instead turned into a fiasco due to severe mismanagement.
One of the main attractions, a youth football tournament, faced significant issues that left players and their supporters frustrated and disappointed.
The disarray was particularly evident during the scheduling of the matches, with players being left to suffer in the scorching heat of Charsadda.
A participant expressed his dismay while receiving the runner-up trophy, stating, “First of all, I would like to thank the DSO for humiliating us in this scorching heat. We were told that the match would start at 2 PM, and the ceremony would be at 4 PM. You can see the condition of these boys who arrived at 2 PM and are now suffering in this unbearable heat. There was even a fight, and no one bothered to come. These people are sitting in their air-conditioned rooms and demanding that the match be scheduled for 2 PM.”
The player’s remarks highlighted the lack of coordination in the management and concern for the participants’ well-being while the extreme heat not only caused physical discomfort but also led to tempers flaring, resulting in altercations on the field.
Later the athlete dismantled the runner-up trophy as a sign of protest in front of the DSO and the entire management that was present at the closing ceremony.
This incident showcases the urgent need for better planning and consideration of the players’ health in future events by the DSO Charsadda.
The young athletes, who came with high hopes in the 2024 Sports Gala, were instead met with disappointment and unnecessary hardship due to the lack of proper planning from the organizers.
