PCB Chairman Gives Update on New Stadiums in Islamabad and Other Parts of the Country

In a significant move to bolster cricket infrastructure ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi announced plans for the construction and renovation of key stadiums across the country. During a press briefing in Lahore, Naqvi emphasized the board’s commitment to elevating the quality of cricket venues to international standards.

Key initiatives include the construction of new stadiums in Islamabad and Abbottabad, along with a performance centre in Skardu. Naqvi highlighted the ongoing discussions with provincial governments to either repair or transfer existing stadiums to the PCB for necessary upgrades.

This approach aims to ensure that domestic and international cricket can be hosted without interruption across Pakistan.

Furthermore, Naqvi assured that renovation work on the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, the National Stadium in Karachi, and the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium will be completed well before the Champions Trophy.

These renovations will focus on improving spectator facilities, increasing seating capacity, and enhancing overall comfort and accessibility. The Gaddafi Stadium, in particular, is undergoing significant upgrades to its seating and hospitality boxes.

The need to upgrade the stadia across the country is urgent as Pakistan will host the Champions Trophy early next year and more cricket is set to be played in the near future. Pakistan’s home season is set to commence on 21 August with the first Test match against Bangladesh. England and West Indies are also set to tour the country within the next few months.
