Pakistan fast bowler Naseem Shah recently opened up about the heartbreak of his team’s narrow six-run defeat to India in the 2024 T20 World Cup.
Despite his outstanding bowling performance, where he claimed 3-21, including the key wicket of Virat Kohli, Shah admitted that the loss weighed heavily on him.
Coming to the crease with Pakistan needing 16 runs off the last three balls, Shah struck two boundaries but couldn’t change the course of the match.
Reflecting on the experience, he spoke about the intense emotions such high-stakes games evoke. “There are a lot of emotions attached with such matches,” Shah said. “I did not expect the result to turn out how it did. There are some things that you keep to yourself. A lot had pent-up and a lot of things flashed in front of me at that point.”
Shah, known for his competitive spirit, expressed how the loss affected him deeply. “Even though I wasn’t directly blamed by fans or the media, one cannot be satisfied and say, ‘I did my bit’ after your team loses,” he explained.
“I am a person who wants to win. I get disappointed even when I lose while playing at home or in my street.” he said reflecting on the fateful loss against the arch-rivals that day.
Naseem Shah also acknowledged the pressure and questions from fans but emphasized that such moments fuel his desire for a comeback.
He said that now, Pakistan will have an opportunity to win hearts again by playing good cricket, determined to turn the disappointment into motivation for future victories.
