Pakistan’s U-18 volleyball team has etched its name in history by qualifying for the World Championship for the first time with the remarkable achievement following their stellar performance at the Asian Volleyball Championship, where they clinched a bronze medal, overcoming formidable opponents like India, South Korea, and Japan.
Coach Saeed Ahmad expressed immense pride in the team’s technical prowess and cohesive teamwork, believing they have the potential to secure a medal at the World Championship.
However, he stressed the importance of government support, particularly in facilitating European tours to sharpen the team’s competitive edge.
“Our boys are technically outstanding, and with the right exposure, we can achieve great things,” Saeed said at a prize distribution ceremony hosted by the Pakistan Volleyball Federation (PVF).
He emphasized the need for at least two European tours before the World Championship to help the Pakistan team in its preparations.
The event, attended by all team members except captain Talal Ahmed, who was unwell, highlighted the significance of international experience. Vice-captain Khizar Hayat underscored this, calling for foreign tours to help the team compete against the world’s best.
Financial constraints remain a challenge for the PVF, but Chairman Mohammad Yaqoob announced a Rs2 million cash prize for the team. Each player will receive Rs100,000, a gesture aimed at motivating the young athletes.
Pakistan volleyball team eagerly awaits the announcement of the World Championship venue in November and their focus remains on making a powerful impact on the world stage.
