Pakistan’s first Artificial Intelligence (AI) University is set to be established in Lahore, as announced by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz. The prestigious institution will be located within the Nawaz Sharif IT City, marking a milestone in the country’s educational landscape.
The Chief Minister unveiled this initiative during a ceremony celebrating the achievements of top-performing students from Punjab Boards. The Chief Minister said:
Artificial Intelligence University will offer higher education and provide IT skills that are in high demand worldwide.
This announcement comes on the heels of a major development earlier this year when the IT City project received the green light from the Punjab government in March. The ambitious IT City project, spanning an impressive 853 acres (equivalent to 6,824 kanals), is strategically situated near PKLI in Lahore. This expansive development is poised to become a hub for technological innovation and education in the region.
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz also unveiled an ambitious scholarship program with a substantial budget of Rs. 25 billion. This initiative aims to provide talented students with access to education at some of the country’s most prestigious institutions, including LUMS, IBA, COMSATS, and FAST, among others.
During her announcement, CM Maryam emphasized the program’s potential impact on youth employment. She expressed confidence that students who acquire IT skills through this initiative will face significantly reduced job search times. “After gaining these IT skills, young people will not have to wander. They will find jobs quickly,” the Chief Minister stated.
