PMD Forecasts More Rain Nationwide Next Week

The Meteorological Office (PMD) has forecasted rain nationwide after indicating that a low-pressure system currently positioned over West Bengal is expected to move westward over the next few days and may reach the southern parts of the country by August 25th.

As a result of this system, strong monsoon currents are likely to enter the country starting from the night of August 25th. PMD predicts the following areas to be impacted by heavy rain:

Sindh: Rain with wind and thunderstorms, including scattered heavy downpours and isolated very heavy falls, are expected in areas such as Karachi, Hyderabad, Dadu, Thatta, Badin, Sajawal, Shaheed Benazirabad, Jamshoro, Tando Allahyar, Tando Muhammad Khan, Tharparkar, Nagarparkar, Mithi, Mirpur Khas, Umarkot, Matiari, Sanghar, Sukkur, Ghotki, Shikarpur, Kashmore, Khairpur, Larkana, Jacobabad, and Naushahro Feroze from the night of August 25th to August 29th, with occasional breaks.

Balochistan: Rain with wind and thunderstorms, with some heavy falls, is expected in Khuzdar, Kalat, Lasbela, Awaran, Naseerabad, Sibbi, Jaffarabad, Kohlu, Harnai, Dera Bugti, Zhob, Quetta, Ziarat, Sherani, Qila Abdullah, Qila Saifullah, Barkhan, Musa Khel, Loralai, Mastung, Bolan, Jhal Magsi, Kech, Panjgur, Gwadar, Jiwani, Pasni, and Ormara from August 26th to 30th, with occasional breaks.

Punjab/Islamabad: Rain with wind and thunderstorms, along with some heavy falls, are anticipated in Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Murree, Galliyat, Attock, Chakwal, Talagang, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Wazirabad, Sahiwal, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Nankana Sahib, Chiniot, Faisalabad, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Sialkot, Narowal, Okara, Pakpattan, Kasur, Khushab, Sargodha, Mianwali, Bhakkar, Layyah, Dera Ghazi Khan, Rajanpur, Multan, Khanewal, Lodhran, Muzaffargarh, Kot Addu, Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Khanpur, and Rahim Yar Khan from the night of August 25th to August 28th, with occasional breaks.

Kashmir: Rain with wind and thunderstorms, with isolated heavy falls, are expected in Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Poonch, Hattian, Bagh, Haveli, Sudhanoti, Kotli, Bhimber, and Mirpur from the night of August 25th to August 28th, with occasional breaks.

Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa: Rain with wind and thunderstorms, with isolated heavy falls, are expected in Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Malakand, Shangla, Battagram, Buner, Kohat, Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Peshawar, Swabi, Nowshera, Mardan, Charsadda, Hangu, Kurram, Orakzai, Waziristan, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, and Dera Ismail Khan from August 26th to 28th, with occasional breaks.

Gilgit-Baltistan: Rain with wind and thunderstorms are expected in Diamir, Astore, Skardu, Gilgit, Ghanche, and Shigar from August 26th to 28th, with occasional breaks.

Possible Impacts and Advisories:

  • Pluvial flooding and waterlogging may occur in low-lying areas of Sindh, Balochistan, and southern Punjab.
  • Heavy rains could lead to flash flooding in local streams and hill torrents in D.G. Khan, Dadu, Kalat, Khuzdar, Jaffarabad, Sibbi, Naseerabad, Barkhan, Loralai, Awaran, Panjgur, Washuk, Mastung, and Lasbela between August 26th and 29th.
  • Urban flooding is possible in low-lying areas of Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Kasur, Sialkot, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Multan, Nowshera, and Peshawar from August 26th to 28th.
  • Landslides may be triggered in Murree, Galliyat, Mansehra, Kohistan, Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Buner, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan from August 26th to 28th.
  • Heavy rain, windstorms, and lightning may disrupt daily activities and could damage weak structures such as the roofs or walls of mud houses, electric poles, billboards, vehicles, and solar panels, and may cause road disruptions during this period.
  • Farmers are advised to plan their activities considering the weather forecast.
  • Travelers and tourists are urged to exercise extra caution, manage their travel plans according to weather conditions, and avoid any risky situations during this wet spell.
