Pakistan’s opening Test match against Bangladesh witnessed some stellar performances on the second day by Mohammad Rizwan and Saud Shakeel at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.
Despite an initial stumble, Pakistan staged a remarkable comeback, thanks to stellar centuries from Saud Shakeel and Mohammad Rizwan who propelled the team to a formidable first-innings total of 448/6.
Saud Shakeel was dismissed after scoring a brilliant 141 while Rizwan continued his onslaught, remaining unbeaten on 171.
As Pakistan reached the 448-run mark, captain Shan Masood made the decision to declare the innings, a move that sparked debate among fans and cricket pundits alike. Many questioned whether Rizwan should have been allowed to chase a double century.
Addressing these concerns, Pakistan’s vice-captain Shakeel clarified that Rizwan was well aware of the declaration plan. “Rizwan bhai was informed about an hour before that we would be declaring at this point. He knew our target was to approach 450 runs before declaring,” Shakeel stated.
On the second day, however, Pakistan’s bowlers struggled to capitalize on the momentum. Despite 12 overs, they failed to break through Bangladesh’s opening pair.
Shadman Islam and Zakir Hasan ended the day unbeaten with scores of 12 and 11 respectively, steering Bangladesh to 27/0 at stumps. The lack of early wickets leaves Pakistan with a challenging task ahead as they aim to build on their strong start.
