Former Pakistan captain Rashid Latif has claimed that India will come to Pakistan for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 following Jay Shah’s appointment as the chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC), marking a pivotal moment in the sport’s governance.
Shah, who has held the top position at the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for five years, was elected unopposed, making him the youngest to ever hold this prestigious role.
Rashid Latif, former Pakistan captain, has weighed in on the implications of Shah’s appointment. In an exclusive interview with a local media outlet, Latif hinted that Shah’s leadership might pave the way for India’s participation in the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy, which is set to be hosted by Pakistan.
“PCB has not opposed Shah’s appointment for a reason. I think there’s an understanding. If India’s team comes, it will be because of Jay Shah’s efforts, along with support from their government,” Latif stated.
He further expressed confidence in Shah’s influence, suggesting that the groundwork for India’s visit to Pakistan had already been laid. “Approval has already been halfway granted. India is coming to Pakistan,” Latif added.
Shah’s ascension to the ICC’s top position could potentially, ease tensions between the cricketing rivals and ensure a full-strength tournament when the Champions Trophy begins on February 19, 2025, culminating in the final on March 9.
The tournament will feature the top eight ODI teams, promising a high-stakes competition in Pakistan next year.
