The Pakistan Sports Board (PSB), acting on directives from the Ministry for Inter-Provincial Coordination (IPC), has summoned officials from the Pakistan Football Federation’s (PFF) Normalisation Committee (NC) to address the contentious decision to impose life bans on several prominent officials.
It is worth noting that PFF had imposed lifetime bans on 22 officials. According to reports, the announcement of the life bans came as a surprise to government officials. “We have many options available to us, but it is crucial to first address the issue directly with the NC officials. We have requested their legal advisor to ensure the officials are available for a meeting,” an official stated.
The PSB’s primary concern revolves around the right of individuals to participate in elections. The official emphasized that no federation has the authority to prevent eligible individuals from contesting elections. “You cannot deprive anyone of contesting elections. Some officials were not even involved in any controversy. The NC will have to provide a valid explanation for their actions,” the official added.
When questioned about potential actions the Sports Board might take if PFF NC members fail to attend the meeting, the official indicated that several options are on the table. However, the initial step is to request their presence before the ministry and PSB officials to discuss the matter.
The PSB and IPC Ministry are keen to resolve the issue in a manner that upholds the integrity of the electoral process and the rights of all stakeholders involved.
