Pakistan’s star batter Babar Azam has dropped out of the top 10 in the latest ICC Test rankings, sliding three spots to No. 12 with 712 points.
This marks a significant change for the 29-year-old, who had consistently remained among the top players in the world over the last few years.
Babar Azam has not delivered for the last 5 Test matches and his form has deteriorated since the ODI World Cup in India, last November.
Mohammad Rizwan, holds on as Pakistan’s highest-ranked Test batter, maintaining his position at No. 10. Saud Shakeel also experienced a dip, falling from No. 13 to No. 20, while Salman Ali Agha showed improvement, climbing from No. 40 to No. 31.
Meanwhile, in England, Joe Root’s extraordinary form continues to elevate him in the rankings. Root, with 922 rating points, has extended his lead over New Zealand’s Kane Williamson by 63 points. Root is just one point shy of his career-best rating of 923, achieved in 2022.
However, England’s Gus Atkinson stole the spotlight with a stunning performance in the second Test against Sri Lanka. His century and five-wicket haul propelled him into the top 20 all-rounders and top 30 bowlers.
Sri Lanka’s Kamindu Mendis and Asitha Fernando also made strides, with Mendis rising to 25th in batting and Fernando breaking into the top 10 bowlers.
In Pakistan, Bangladesh’s series sweep led to significant gains for their players, including Litton Das and Mehedy Hasan Miraz, who improved their rankings with standout performances.
