In light of rising inflation, the Punjab government has approved a 40% increase in the financial package allocated for the families of martyrs, easing their struggles to secure housing. The proposal was given the green light by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz during a recent cabinet meeting.
Sources within the Punjab Police revealed that the current financial support for these families has become insufficient due to soaring costs. Families of martyr constables are provided with a 5-marla house valued at Rs. 13.5 million.
For the families of assistant sub-inspectors (ASI) and sub-inspectors, a 7-marla house worth Rs. 17.5 million is allocated, while the families of inspectors and deputy superintendents of police (DSP) receive a 10-marla house worth Rs. 25 million.
Higher-ranking martyrs, such as superintendents of police (SP) and senior superintendents of police (SSP), are given a 12-marla house valued at Rs. 30 million, and those at the DIG rank are provided a 1-kanal house worth Rs. 50 million.
With the new adjustments, the package for martyr constables’ families will increase to Rs. 18.9 million, while ASI and sub-inspector families will now receive Rs. 24.5 million. Families of SP, SSP, and DIG martyrs will also see a 40% rise in housing benefits.
Despite opposition from the Finance Department, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz approved the proposal, aiming to relieve the financial burden on the families of those who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty.
