The US embassy in Islamabad has issued a new travel advisory urging American citizens to reconsider trips to Pakistan due to increased threats of terrorism and violence.
The warning highlighted the recent attacks in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where militant activities have surged. The advisory has been issued following a deadly attack in Balochistan last month, where over 50 people were killed by separatist militants.
These attacks targeted military sites, police stations, and key infrastructure like railways and highways. In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, religious extremist groups have stepped up their actions, attacking security convoys and checkpoints and kidnapping officials.
The embassy has specifically advised against traveling to Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and the former Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA). It also warned about risks near the India-Pakistan border and the Line of Control, where there is a potential for both terrorism and armed conflict.
According to the advisory, militants often attack public places like transport hubs, markets, military installations, schools, hospitals, and tourist spots. Furthermore, American citizens have been advised to avoid unauthorized protests and be cautious about posting critical content online, as this could lead to detention.
It also encouraged them to stay alert, follow local news, avoid crowded areas, and have evacuation plans that do not rely on US government support. Moreover, they should keep their travel documents updated and accessible.
