The Sindh government has announced a public holiday on September 17 (Tuesday) to mark Eid Milad-un-Nabi, the 12th of Rabi ul Awwal.
According to a notification released on Thursday, all government offices and educational institutions across the province will be closed on this day.
This decision aligns with similar announcements from both the Punjab and federal governments, which also declared September 17 as a public holiday in celebration of Eid Milad-un-Nabi.
In addition to the holiday announcement, the Sindh government has imposed a ban on pillion riding on motorcycles in major cities, including Karachi, due to security concerns.
On the other hand, Sindh Governor Kamran Khan Tessori has been active in advocating for the significance of Rabi ul Awwal. On Thursday, he sent letters to the Prime Minister and Sindh Chief Minister, emphasizing the importance of celebrating Eid Milad-un-Nabi with the proper religious zeal. The governor proposed declaring a public holiday on the 11th of Rabi ul Awwal as well.
In a separate letter to the PEMRA chairman, Tessori requested a ban on dance, music, and films during the holy month. He urged that television channels and cable operators focus their programming on the teachings of the Holy Prophet (PBUH), aiming to promote positive values and guidance for the younger generation.
