The U.S. Consulate General in Karachi celebrated the launch of the 2024 English Access Scholarship Program, which will offer English language classes to 200 students. The program aims to equip participants with the skills and knowledge needed to thrive in a globalized world.
During the event, Consul General (CG) Scott Urbom highlighted the program’s importance in opening doors to new opportunities and a brighter future. “By improving their English proficiency, these students are unlocking new academic and career prospects,” said CG Urbom.
He also emphasized that the program will teach language skills and promote an understanding of American culture and values. CG Urbom expressed gratitude to the dedicated teachers, coordinators, and staff of Evolution, the program’s implementing partner, and acknowledged the academic partners, including Sindh Madressatul Islam University, University of Sufism and Modern Sciences Bhitshah, and Sindh Agriculture University, Umerkot.
Sponsored by the U.S. Mission’s Regional English Language Office in Pakistan, the two-year program offers afterschool and intensive English classes to academically talented but economically disadvantaged students between the ages of 13 and 20. Through the Access program, students will gain insight into U.S. culture and democratic values, enhancing their ability to contribute to Pakistan’s socio-economic development and increasing their eligibility for future U.S. exchange and academic programs.
The English Access Scholarship Program is part of the U.S. government’s ongoing efforts to support educational initiatives in Pakistan and empower young people to succeed in an interconnected world.
Since its inception in 2004, the program has benefited around 8,000 students across Sindh and Balochistan, providing them with the skills needed to succeed globally.
