Passport Backlog Cleared, Claims Directorate General of Passports

Directorate General (DG) of Immigration and Passports has claimed that the backlog of passports in big cities like Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Quetta, and others has been cleared.

Several citizens have complained publicly that the passport-issuing process was taking months instead of the standard three weeks.

The year 2024 saw regular fee passports being delayed by several months while urgent fee green books take up to two months to be issued.

The Passport and Immigration Department had recently faced issues of ink shortages and nonavailability of lamination paper, which were resolved. However, the department’s insufficient printing capacity caused operations to get delayed.

“Now all categories of backlogs — normal, fast-track, and urgent — have been resolved,” the DG Immigration and Passports said, adding that the authorities will now focus on other cities to clear the remaining backlogs.
