YouTube Premium is Getting a Price Hike

European users have been the first to notice, but YouTube has quietly decided to raise subscription prices worldwide. Starting in November, subscribers will see increased costs for individual and family plans.

YouTube Premium subscribers are being informed of these hikes through emails.

YouTube Premium is getting more expensive internationally

In countries like Belgium, the Netherlands, and Italy, the family plan will jump from €18 to €26 per month. Individual plans will also see a price increase, going from €12 to €14. Other affected countries include Switzerland, where prices will rise from CHF 24 to CHF 34, and Sweden, where plans will increase from SEK 179 to SEK 279.

Of course, the price for Premium in Pakistan is a lot cheaper, but it will likely also see a proportional increase soon. While YouTube has not yet released a comprehensive list of countries impacted by the price hike, subscribers are encouraged to watch their inboxes for more details.

YouTube’s recent price hike has sparked criticism online, with some Reddit users calling it overly aggressive. Many subscribers point out that YouTube Premium is now one of the most expensive streaming services, especially for those primarily using it for YouTube Music.

For example, Spotify’s family plan in Europe typically costs around €18, while the individual plan is around €11. Apple Music offers similar pricing, matching Spotify’s individual plan and charging only €1 less for the family plan. This comparison highlights YouTube Premium’s relatively high cost, particularly for users who primarily value its music streaming features.

YouTube Premium brings you the added benefit of no ads, local downloads, higher-quality streaming, background playback on phones, and music streaming.
