Pakistan Development Institute’s Website Attacked by Indian Hackers

In a recent cybersecurity incident, the website of Pakistan’s Federal Development Institute fell victim to a hack allegedly carried out by Indian actors. The breach was marked by the appearance of the phrase “Jay Shri Ram” on the compromised site, a slogan associated with Hindu nationalism.

The hackers left additional messages on the website, including “we are unknown” and “we will not forget,” signaling their intent to remain anonymous while issuing a warning. In a bold statement, the perpetrators claimed that cybersecurity measures would not deter them from targeting Pakistani websites.

The group behind the attack issued a stark warning, asserting that they had gained access to the main server and possessed the capability to execute further hacks. They demanded an end to what they perceived as interference in Indian cyberspace, threatening continued attacks if their demands were not met.

This incident highlights the ongoing tensions in the digital realm between India and Pakistan, reflecting broader geopolitical conflicts in the region. It also underscores the vulnerabilities in government websites and the potential for cyber attacks to be used as tools of political expression.

Back in June this year, a group of Pakistani hackers allegedly targeted the Indian government with cyber attacks using the DISGOMOJI malware. This specific type of malware is written using the Go programming language and targets Linux-based systems.

BlackBerry, a prominent cybersecurity firm, has identified DISGOMOJI as a multifaceted espionage tool used in a significant attack campaign. This tool was discovered during an infrastructure analysis linked to activities attributed to Transparent Tribe, a hacking group believed to have connections to Pakistan.
