Almost a year after the Tecno Pop 8, we are now getting the Pop 9 5G, which keeps the entry-level price for a decent set of specifications. Tecno says the phone has been “designed with Gen Alpha, college students, and trendsetters in mind.” Whatever that means.
Starting with the screen, it is a 120Hz panel of unknown size or resolution, but it is likely the same as last year with a 720p resolution and a 6.6-inch diagonal stretch. The selfie camera is placed inside a punch-hole cutout and the fingerprint sensor resides on the side atop the power button.
The Unisoc T606 chipset from before has been updated to the Dimensity 6300 chip, which can be paired with only a single 4 GB RAM option as well as 64 GB/128 GB storage variants. There is no mention of a memory card slot, but the option is likely available.
You also get the latest Android 14 Go Edition now.
The main camera system sees the biggest upgrade on the table. The 48MP Sony IMX582 sensor replaces the previous 13MP primary shooter and it is accompanied by an “AI shooter” with unknown resolution, just like last year. This camera can record 1080p videos at 30 FPS.
The selfie camera’s resolution is not mentioned either but is probably the same 8MP snapper.
The Tecno Pop 9 5G has the same 5,000 mAh battery, but the wired charging has been updated from 10W to 18W.
The phone has a starting price of $115 in India and it is unclear if it is coming to Pakistan, though it is not unlikely.
