Afaq Khan, an Outside Hitter for the Pakistan National Volleyball team, has signed on with Mes Rafsanjan for the 2024-25 Iranian Super League campaign.
The Iranian league in its current format has been operating since 1997, with Paykan Tehran being the dominant force with 12 titles.
Afaq Khan is not new to playing in foreign leagues, having previously plied his trade with Kazakh side Atyrau VC. His transfer is thought to be supported by his also being with the Qalichi Volleyball Agency which is based in Amol, Iran.
Mes Rafsanjan is a multisport-oriented club founded in 1995. Mes Rafsanjan also operates a football team that plays in the Persian Gulf Pro League, the top-flight football league of Iran.
This move to Iran is sure to provide a step up in competition, with the Iranian National Volleyball team at a strong 15th place in the FIVB World Volleyball Rankings, whereas Pakistan is ranked 48th.
There is hope that more Pakistani players will join Afaq Khan to play more competitive leagues abroad, to make Pakistan volleyball stronger as a whole
