The Pakistan Volleyball Federation (PVF) has announced the launch of an International Volleyball League, set to begin on December 15. The league will feature six teams, each representing different cities across Pakistan.
To enhance the competitive level and exposure, each team will be allowed to include two international players. The league will adopt a double-league format, spanning approximately three weeks, offering an intense and engaging competition for both players and fans.
Speaking to journalists, PVF Chairman Chaudhry Muhammad Yaqoob expressed his enthusiasm for the league, highlighting its potential to promote Volleyball at the grassroots level and provide economic benefits to players. Yaqoob, a former Inspector General of Police, emphasized the league’s role in uncovering hidden talent and providing world-class facilities to players, enabling them to shine on the international stage.
“This initiative will open new avenues for local players, allowing them to showcase their skills and improve their economic conditions,” Yaqoob stated. He also praised the recent achievements of Pakistan’s junior volleyball team, which has qualified for the Under-18 Volleyball World Cup, attributing their success to the dedication of coach Saeed Ahmed.
The progress of Pakistan’s volleyball teams, both senior and junior, has been noteworthy, with the junior team recently securing a spot in the top five rankings in Asia. Yaqoob reiterated the federation’s commitment to nurturing volleyball talent in Pakistan and expressed confidence that the International Volleyball League would play a crucial role in the sport’s development.
The league is set to become an annual event, providing a consistent platform for players to excel and gain international exposure.
