The Punjab government has announced a reduction in transport fares following a recent drop in petrol and diesel prices, offering some financial relief to passengers. Information Minister Azma Bukhari shared the details during a press briefing in Lahore, highlighting that fare cuts range from Rs. 20 to Rs. 190, with the largest decrease on the Lahore to Karachi route.
Bukhari revealed that fares for the Lahore to Karachi route have been reduced by Rs. 190, while the fare for travel from Lahore to Peshawar has been lowered by Rs. 50, and from Lahore to Rawalpindi by Rs. 20. This move aims to make travel more affordable for the public amid fluctuating fuel prices.
She also pointed out that Punjab is currently the only province to adjust transport fares in line with the reduced fuel costs. The minister stated that updated fare lists have been posted at bus terminals across the province to reflect the new rates.
This marks the fifth consecutive fare reduction following a dip in petrol prices, with the government encouraging other provinces to implement similar measures to ease the burden on passengers.
On September 30, the government reduced petrol prices by Rs. 2.7 per liter, bringing the new rate to Rs. 247.03. High-speed diesel prices were lowered by Rs. 3.40 per liter, while light diesel and kerosene oil saw cuts of Rs. 1.30 and Rs. 3.57 per liter, respectively.
