Former fast bowler Stuart Broad believes England’s aggressive approach will be crucial in the upcoming Test series against Pakistan.
The three-match red-ball series will mark England’s return to Pakistan, following their impressive 3-0 series victory in 2022.
Despite this success, England struggled earlier this year in similar conditions in India, where they suffered a 4-1 series loss. Nonetheless, Stuart Broad remains confident that the team, under coach Brendon McCullum, has the tools and the strategy to succeed in Pakistan.
Speaking ahead of the launch of Marylebone Cricket Club’s (MCC) new digital platform, Inside Lord’s, Stuart Broad emphasized that England’s ultra-aggressive style, known for its attacking mindset and risk-taking approach, will be key in overcoming the challenges posed by the slow and spin-friendly surfaces in Pakistan.
“I think the style will work in Pakistan, for sure,” said Broad. “They’re really positive and aggressive, they can find the boundary and don’t get tied down by spin. England will have to play fast-paced cricket to force results over there because you generally do need five days to make something happen.”
However, England will head into the series with some concerns regarding their fast-bowling lineup. While the attack will be led by all-rounder Chris Woakes, the team will be without experienced fast bowler Mark Wood, who is nursing an elbow injury. Skipper Ben Stokes, another key figure in England’s pace unit, is also unfit to bowl.
Instead, England will rely on a relatively inexperienced pace attack that includes Matthew Potts, Olly Stone, Gus Atkinson, and Brydon Carse.
