Lahore to Host National Weightlifting Championships

The 66th edition of the National Men’s and Women’s Weightlifting Championship is set to take place from October 8 to 11 at the Railway Stadium in Lahore. This prestigious event, organized by the Pakistan Weightlifting Federation, promises to be a highlight for upcoming weightlifters across the nation.

Hafiz Imran Butt, President of the Pakistan Weightlifting Federation (PWF), expressed excitement about the upcoming championship, which will span four days of intense competition. According the the PWF President, In addition to the national championships, the event will also host the 3rd edition of the Railway Chief Executive Officer Weightlifting Gold Cup as well as the 6th National Women’s Weightlifting Championship, in an attempt to test the depth of talent in both men’s and women’s categories.

Weightlifters from all over the nation will have the opportunity to demonstrate their strength, skill, and determination as they compete for national titles and personal bests. The event in Lahore is expected to attract significant attention from all corners, which the PWF hopes will further promote weightlifting in Pakistan.

Weightlifting in the country has been under a dark cloud as of late, muddled by politics of parallel bodies and the banning of athletes such as Commonwealth Gold Medalist Nooh Dastgir Butt. It is hoped that this event might help in ushering in a new dawn for the sport in the country.
