MoneyGram Hit by Cyberattack, Sensitive Customer Data Stolen

MoneyGram has confirmed that hackers breached the money transfer giant’s system and stole sensitive customer data and transaction information during a cyberattack last month, TechCrunch reported.

The company announced on Monday that an unauthorized third party accessed and acquired customers’ personal details in the breach on September 20, which led to a week-long outage affecting its website and app.

The attack has compromised a wide range of customer data, including names, phone numbers, addresses, dates of birth, and national ID numbers.

Hackers accessed transaction details, including transaction dates, amounts, and criminal data of some customers.

MoneyGram is still in the early stages of investigating the breach and has not yet disclosed how many customers were affected. Last month, the company notified UK data protection authorities about this data breach in accordance with legal requirements.
